Remove the connection
You can stop the connection at any time. Removing it does not delete anything in QuickBooks. Records the app already created or changed stay in your company file.
There are three places the connection lives. Which ones you clean up depends on why you are removing it.
| Goal | Web Connector | QuickBooks | Tell the app |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stop using the app for good | Remove | Remove | Yes |
| Retire an old computer after moving | Remove | Keep | No |
| Pause for a short time | Uncheck Auto-Run | Keep | Optional |
Remove the app from the Web Connector
Section titled “Remove the app from the Web Connector”Do this on the computer that runs the connection, signed in as the Windows user who set it up.
- Open QuickBooks and the company file.
- Choose File › App Management › Update Web Services. The Web Connector opens.
- Find the app’s row, named like “App name (Company name)”.
- Click Remove on that row and confirm with Yes.
- Click Hide to close the window. If you have no other apps in the Web Connector, you can click Exit instead.
The Web Connector stops checking in for this app right away.
Remove the app from QuickBooks
Section titled “Remove the app from QuickBooks”This takes away the permission QuickBooks gave the app during setup. Without it, the app cannot open the company file even if someone adds it back to the Web Connector.
- Sign in to the company file as Admin.
- Choose Edit › Preferences.
- Select Integrated Applications in the list on the left.
- Select the Company Preferences tab.
- Select the app, named like “App name via Desktop Accounting API”, and click Remove. If you only want to block it for now, clear its checkbox instead.
- Click OK.
Tell the app
Section titled “Tell the app”Removing the connection on your side does not tell the app you are leaving. Disconnect or cancel inside the app as well, or contact its support team. They can turn the connection off on their side, so it stops trying to reach your file. If you want the app to delete data it already copied from QuickBooks, ask the app directly. That data is under the app’s control.
Pause instead of removing
Section titled “Pause instead of removing”To stop the connection for a while without losing the setup:
- In the Web Connector, clear Auto-Run on the app’s row.
- To resume, check Auto-Run again.
The app shows the connection as not active while it is paused.
Check that it worked
Section titled “Check that it worked”- The app’s row is gone from the Web Connector.
- The app is gone from Edit › Preferences › Integrated Applications, on the Company Preferences tab.
- The app shows the connection as disconnected or not active.
If you change your mind
Section titled “If you change your mind”Ask the app for a new setup link and run it. A new setup creates a new connector with a new password. See Connect QuickBooks Desktop.
