What hosting providers say about the Web Connector

If your QuickBooks Desktop runs on a hosting service, the QuickBooks Web Connector has to run in your hosted desktop, next to QuickBooks. Each provider decides whether you can install it, who adds apps to it, and whether it keeps running after you disconnect. This page sums up what some providers publish about it, with links to their own pages. Providers change their services, so their support team has the final word.

Start with Hosted QuickBooks for the setup steps that apply to every provider.

  • Is the QuickBooks Web Connector installed in my hosted desktop, or do you install it on request?
  • Can I add an app’s connector file (.qwc) myself?
  • Does my session, and the Web Connector in it, keep running after I disconnect? For how long?
  • Can the Web Connector, and QuickBooks if needed, start automatically when my session starts?
  • Does my plan include apps that connect through the Web Connector?
  • Rightworks says the QuickBooks Web Connector is already installed on all Rightworks accounts.
  • You add an app yourself. Open your company file, choose File › Update Web Services, click Add an Application, and select the connector file. First put the connector file on your Rightworks desktop; Rightworks has a File Manager article for moving files there. Then enter the password, tick the app and click Update Selected.
  • Rightworks says most Web Connector apps work with Rightworks, and points you to the app’s maker for setup problems with a given app.
  • Intuit’s description of Rightworks hosting says the Core package hosts any app that uses the QuickBooks Web Connector, and that third-party apps “incur costs and are only usable within the hosted environment.”

Ask Rightworks support whether the Web Connector keeps running after you disconnect, and whether it can start automatically with your session.

  • Summit’s help center has an article for installing the QuickBooks Web Connector on the server. It says the installation needs administrator rights on that server, so on a server you do not manage, ask Summit support to install it.
  • Summit’s article on adding an app says to browse to the app’s connector file with Add an application in the Web Connector. If needed, sign in to QuickBooks as the company file’s Admin in single-user mode and check the app under Edit › Preferences › Integrated Applications › Company Preferences.
  • Summit notes that its support team does not have your QuickBooks Admin credentials, so you or your QuickBooks Admin approve the app.

Ask Summit support whether the Web Connector keeps running after you disconnect, and whether it can start automatically.

  • Cloud9 Real Time now operates as Cloudnine Realtime and hosts QuickBooks Desktop in a virtual environment.
  • Its knowledge base has a QuickBooks Web Connector error article for QBWC1039, which suggests editing the IDs inside the connector file. Do not edit a connector file from this app. Follow QBWC1039: Unique OwnerID/FileID pair value required instead, which gives you a fresh connector file.
  • We did not find a Cloudnine page on installing the Web Connector or on keeping it running.

Ask Cloudnine support the questions above before you set up the connection.

CloudAspects offers QuickBooks Desktop hosting. We did not find any CloudAspects page about the QuickBooks Web Connector. Ask CloudAspects support the questions above before you set up the connection.

The same questions apply to any provider. If the provider cannot run the Web Connector in your session, or ends your session when you disconnect, the app can reach QuickBooks only while you are signed in to the hosted desktop.
