Desktop Accounting API

The QuickBooks Admin must reauthorize the app

QuickBooks still knows the app, but after a change on your side it wants the QuickBooks Admin to confirm the app once more before it lets it sign in on its own.

The app shows:

QuickBooks Desktop needs its Admin to allow this connection again. In QuickBooks, sign in as Admin, open Edit > Preferences > Integrated Applications > Company Preferences, select this application and click Reauthorize, then try again.

During setup, the title is “QuickBooks needs the Admin to allow this application again”. The app’s support team may see the code 0x80040435 with this QuickBooks message:

Recent changes to your configuration require you (the QuickBooks Administrator) to go into the Integrated Applications preferences and re-authorize your integrated application to log in automatically.

Every update fails the same way until the Admin reauthorizes the app. Nothing is changed in your company file meanwhile.

QuickBooks asks for this after a change it treats as a new configuration for the app. In our tests it happened when the same connector file was added to the Web Connector on a second computer that opens the same company file over the network.

  1. On a computer with the company file, open QuickBooks Desktop and sign in to the company file as Admin.
  2. If the title bar says multi-user, ask everyone else who uses the company file to save their work and close it, then choose File › Switch to Single-user Mode. QuickBooks does not let anyone change Company Preferences for integrated applications in multi-user mode: it shows “Not allowed in multi-user mode”.
  3. Choose Edit › Preferences, then Integrated Applications in the list on the left, then the Company Preferences tab.
  4. Select “{App} via Desktop Accounting API” in the list and click Reauthorize.
  5. With the app still selected, click Properties. Check Allow this application to read and modify this company file and Allow access for this application even when QuickBooks isn’t running, and click OK.
  6. Click OK to close Preferences.
  7. If others work in the company file, choose File › Switch to Multi-user Mode.

Use the app again, or click Check again during setup. In our tests the next update worked straight after the Admin reauthorized the app.

Contact them if the app is reauthorized and the error continues. Send the time, the exact message, a screenshot of the app’s Properties window in Integrated Applications, and a screenshot of the app’s rows in the Web Connector window on each computer.

For developers, see QBD_REAUTHORIZATION_REQUIRED.
