QBWC1085: Problem with the log file

The Web Connector keeps a running log of what it does. When it cannot write to that log, it stops before it connects to anything. The fix takes about a minute.

The Web Connector shows QBWC1085 with a message that there was a problem with the log file. It usually appears when the Web Connector starts, and the Web Connector may close afterwards. The app shows that the connection is not active.

The log file is called QWCLog.txt. It can become damaged after a crash or a forced shutdown, be locked by another program such as a backup or antivirus scan, or be deleted or blocked by folder permissions. The Web Connector cannot carry on without it.

  1. Close the Web Connector. Click Exit in its window, or right-click its icon in the notification area and choose to exit. Check Task Manager for a leftover QBWebConnector process and end it.
  2. Open File Explorer and go to C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QBWebConnector\log\. The ProgramData folder is hidden by default, so paste the path into the File Explorer address bar.
  3. Rename QWCLog.txt to QWCLog-old.txt. If Windows will not let you rename it, delete it instead. If neither works, restart the computer and try again.
  4. Open the QuickBooks Web Connector from the Start menu. It creates a new log file.
  5. In the Web Connector, select the app and click Update Selected.

Renaming the file keeps the old log in case the app’s support team asks for it. The Web Connector does not need it.

The Web Connector starts without the QBWC1085 message, and the app’s row finishes an update without an error in Last Result. A new QWCLog.txt appears in the log folder.

Contact them if the error returns after you reset the log file. Send the time, the exact message, and a screenshot of the Web Connector window. Ask your IT person to check that the Windows user can write to C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QBWebConnector\log\ and that antivirus is not locking the file.
