QuickBooks asked for a later sales tax date

The app tried to record a sales tax check in QuickBooks Desktop, and QuickBooks refused it because it asked for a later sales tax date. The connection is fine. Nothing was changed in QuickBooks.

The app shows this message:

QuickBooks Desktop did not record this sales tax check because it asked for a later sales tax date.

QuickBooks tracks sales tax owed up to a “through” date. It refused this check because of that date. The app cannot set the date when it records the check.

This is an accounting decision, so make it with your accountant before you change anything in QuickBooks. There are two separate things you might do. Do not combine them.

Check the period and dates. Ask your accountant which sales tax period this check belongs to and whether the dates in the app or in QuickBooks are right. If something needs correcting, tell the app’s support team what your accountant decided. Do not pay sales tax for another period only to get past this message.

Record the sales tax yourself in QuickBooks. If you and your accountant decide to record this sales tax in QuickBooks (Vendors > Sales Tax > Pay Sales Tax), do that once, and do not repeat the action in the app afterwards. Repeating it could record the same sales tax twice. Tell the app’s support team that you recorded it in QuickBooks, so the app can find that check instead of creating another one.

Contact them whenever you see this message. Send the time, the exact message, the sales tax period you expected the check to go into, and whether you recorded the sales tax in QuickBooks yourself.
