# Upgrade the Web Connector
Source: https://www.desktopaccountingapi.com/docs/help/guides/upgrade-web-connector/

> Check your QuickBooks Web Connector version and install a newer one if it is older than 2.2.0.34.

The connection needs the classic QuickBooks Web Connector, version 2.2.0.34 or newer. Older builds cannot make the secure TLS 1.2 connection our server requires. With an old build, the Web Connector usually fails with **QBWC1012** and a line about an SSL/TLS secure channel. See [QBWC1012: Authentication failed](https://www.desktopaccountingapi.com/docs/help/connection-errors/qbwc1012-authentication-failed/).

The Web Connector comes with QuickBooks Desktop, so most computers already have a recent version. Older computers and computers upgraded over many years are the ones that fall behind.

## Find your version

1. Exit the Web Connector if it is running.
2. Open File Explorer and go to `C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBWebConnector`.
3. Right-click `QBWebConnector.exe` and choose **Properties**.
4. Open the **Details** tab and read **File version** or **Product version**.

If the version is 2.2.0.34 or higher, you do not need to upgrade.

## Install a newer version

You need a Windows account that can install programs. Ask your IT person if you do not have one.

1. In QuickBooks Desktop, choose **File › Exit** so QuickBooks is closed.
2. Exit the Web Connector. If it keeps running in the background, open Task Manager with **Ctrl+Shift+Esc**, find **QuickBooks Web Connector** or `QBWebConnector.exe`, and click **End task**.
3. Download the installer from Intuit's QuickBooks Web Connector page on the Intuit developer website. Only download it from Intuit.
4. Run the installer and follow its steps.
5. Restart the computer.
6. Open QuickBooks Desktop, open the company file, and choose **File › App Management › Update Web Services** to start the Web Connector.

If the installer refuses because a version is already installed, uninstall **QuickBooks Web Connector** from **Settings › Apps** (or **Control Panel › Programs and Features**) first, then run the installer again.

## After the upgrade

1. In the Web Connector, look for the app's row.
2. If the row is there, check that its box is checked and **Auto-Run** is on. If the Web Connector reports a password error for the row, ask the app for a new setup link. The old password is never shown again. See [Web Connector password problems](https://www.desktopaccountingapi.com/docs/help/connection-errors/web-connector-password/).
3. If the row is gone, ask the app for a new setup link and run it. See [Connect QuickBooks Desktop](https://www.desktopaccountingapi.com/docs/help/setup/).

## Check that it worked

Within a minute, the app's row in the Web Connector shows a recent update time, and actions in the app that need QuickBooks succeed.

## If TLS errors continue

A current Web Connector also needs Windows to support TLS 1.2. Windows versions that the current QuickBooks release supports do. If you still see an SSL/TLS error, install pending Windows updates and see [QBWC1012: Authentication failed](https://www.desktopaccountingapi.com/docs/help/connection-errors/qbwc1012-authentication-failed/).

## When to contact the app's support team

Contact them if the upgrade does not clear the error. Send the Web Connector version, the Windows version, the time and the exact message, and a screenshot of the Web Connector.
