# QBWC1048: Could not verify the server certificate
Source: https://www.desktopaccountingapi.com/docs/help/connection-errors/qbwc1048-certificate/

> Fix QBWC1048 when the Web Connector cannot verify our server's HTTPS certificate, usually because of the system clock, HTTPS inspection or missing root certificates.

The Web Connector checks our server's security certificate before it sends anything. `QBWC1048` means that check failed, so the Web Connector refused to connect. That refusal protects your data. The fix is on the computer or the network, not in QuickBooks.

## What you see

The Web Connector shows `QBWC1048` with a message that it could not verify the web application server certificate. It may appear when you add the connector file or on each check-in. The app shows that the connection is not active.

## Why it happens

- The Windows date or time is wrong. Certificates are valid only for set dates, so a clock that is days or years off makes a valid certificate look expired.
- Antivirus, a firewall or a proxy inspects HTTPS traffic. It swaps our certificate for its own, and the Web Connector does not trust the substitute.
- Windows is missing current root certificates, the list of trusted authorities that Windows Update keeps up to date.

## How to fix it

1. Check the date, time and time zone in the corner of the taskbar. If any are wrong, open **Settings › Time & language › Date & time**, turn on **Set time automatically**, and click **Sync now**.
2. Install pending Windows updates and restart. This refreshes the root certificates.
3. If the computer is on a managed network, ask your IT person whether the antivirus, firewall or proxy inspects HTTPS. If it does, exclude `qbwc.desktopaccountingapi.com` from inspection.
4. On a computer you manage yourself, check your antivirus settings for a feature with a name like HTTPS scanning, SSL scanning or web shield, and add an exception for `qbwc.desktopaccountingapi.com`.
5. In the Web Connector, select the app and click **Update Selected**.

> **Caution:**
> Never install a certificate or turn off certificate checks because a website or a stranger told you to. The steps above are the only changes this error needs.

## How to check it worked

Click **Update Selected** in the Web Connector. The app's row finishes without `QBWC1048`, and the app no longer shows that the connection is not active.

## When to contact the app's support

Contact them if the date is correct, Windows is up to date and nothing on the network inspects HTTPS. Send the time, the full `QBWC1048` text, your Windows version, the name of your antivirus, and a screenshot of the app's row in the Web Connector window.
